The Greater Knoxville Business Journal (a publication of the Knoxville News Sentinel) today published Nicholas Lee‘s article on civil forfeitures related to criminal matters, “Move quickly to challenge civil forfeiture.”

Excerpt: Those in favor of civil forfeiture argue that it is a tool through which the government can help prevent money and items from being used in future crimes, and through which the government can make crime less profitable. Those against civil forfeiture, such as the people at, argue that it is “state-sanctioned theft” and that “80 percent of people from whom the federal government seized property for forfeiture were never even charged with a crime.”
